Assistant Director of Nursing HSE Mental Health Services Galway City

The Community Healthcare West Drugs Service (CHWDS) provides specialist professional and confidential counselling and support service to adults, young people and families who experience problems related to drug use.

The service operates across Mayo, Roscommon, and Galway. People can self-refer to access the service and the staff use a harm minimisation approach to drug problems. The service also operates an Opiate Substitution Therapy (OST) clinic.

  • To support the Drugs Coordinator in the overall management responsibilities and professional standards for the CHWDS.
  • Be responsible for assisting the Drugs Coordinator by taking an active role in the professional leadership, development and management of the nursing and allied care staff in the service.
  • Be required to work with members of the Multi-Disciplinary Team to implement the strategic objectives for the CHWDS.
  • Take a lead role in developing systematic and structured frameworks in order to facilitate clinical practice development and innovation within the service.
  • Lead on behalf of the Drugs Coordinator on strategic projects that develop and improve nursing services and contribute to the overall development of service and the achievement of any development objectives.
  • Lead and support the overall continued development of the CHWDS according to national plans and strategy.
  • Take a lead role in meeting the HSE policy objectives for CHWDS.
  • Develop and manage Quality Assurance Programmes in line with CHWDS e.g. N.M.B.I and H.S.E Standards and any other regulatory bodies, as required.
  • Plan, manage and implement the statutory/mandatory training requirements of staff under their area of responsibility
  • Be responsible for the implementation of local policy decisions with service management and the effective utilisation of resources.
  • The role will not be limited by reference to this profile and should reflect established practices in relation to the Assistant Director of Nursing post.

Specific Criteria

  • Experience of working in Addiction Services.
  • Experience of policy development and translating policy into action.
  • Experience of quality audit/assurance systems.

  • ADON (Mental Health) salary scale €66,957 - €68,991 - €71,013 - €75,650 - €76,571 - €78,703 - €80,796
  • 3 months. This will become a permanent position when HSE recruitment advertise it.
  • Monday to Friday only.
  • 9:30 – 5:30 Monday – Friday and based in Galway City
