Nurse required to support the care of a child with complex care needs in Kerry
16 hours a week - one 8 hour night and two 4 hour evenings
- Assist parents in caring for a child who is non-verbal with Lennox-gastaut syndrome, severe inter-actable epilepsy, Trisomy 21, jejunostomy feeding, severe developmental delay and complex congenital cardiac disease.
The nursing care needs include the following;
- Transgastric-jejunal feeding – a continuous infusion of 18 hours into the jejunum (Management of ports on feeding tube, sterility essential). If the tube dislodges, knowledge of how to keep the stoma site open and to be able to use insert a PEG tube is required as this would require emergency transfer to CHI Crumlin.
- 5-7 Seizures per day requiring monitoring, supervision and administration of prescribed medication.
- Oxygen therapy and suctioning as indicated to maintain a clear airway. Initiation of cardiopulmonary resuscitation as necessary
All the other care needs of a dependent child with complex medical issues.
